What is Satellite Radio?

There's satellite everything ... satellite TV, satellite phone, so why not satellite radio? Satellite radio is a service you subscribe to. In return for a monthly fee, you get to receive great radio service anywhere you go.

Satellite radio service is available for your car, your home, your office or even in public locations. It's not like free radio where any radio can receive the signals. You have to pay a monthly or yearly subscription fee to enjoy satellite radio. In the United States, there are 2 top satellite radio providers, Sirrus and XM.

Each of these satellite radio services provides hundreds of channels. Unlike free radio service, where you have to take whatever the station is airing at that time, satellite radio gives you complete coverage of all genres in one single satellite radio service.

And since you're paying for the satellite radio service, it's logical that the service is usually commercial free. But they retain the right to put their own commercials into the satellite radio service that you receive.

In order to receive the satellite radio broadcast, you need a special radio. Normally when you subscribe to the satellite radio service, they will include a satellite radio receiver in with the package price. The good thing is that no matter where you are, all you need is the radio. The signal is not restricted by the power of the radio station. Instead a satellite powers the radio signals, so you can literally listen to satellite radio anywhere in the world.

Another advantage of satellite radio over the conventional radio is that you do not have to keep fiddling with your radio tuner as you're traveling. Nor do you need to put up with static when the reception is bad.

With satellite radio, you're assured of high quality reception anywhere you go anywhere in the world.
